ASSOCIATE MEMBERS ONLINE EXHIBITION
AWS holds two exhibitions each year: the Associate Members Online Exhibition from June-August, and the Annual International Exhibition in April. The Associate Members Online Exhibition is open to AWS Associate members only (artists can join in order to apply) and is held online only.
ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION
The Annual International Exhibition is in-person and is held (in the month of April only) at the Salmagundi Club in Greenwich Village, NYC.
The below submission information is generally the same from year to year, for the International Exhibition. Prospectuses are released in August of each year in advance of the submission period, which typically runs from September to November of each year.
The Annual Exhibition is open to all artists (member and non-member) working in water soluble media: watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache and egg tempera on paper, Yupo, or illustration board.
No collage, pastels, digital images, any form of print or reproductions.
Artist’s original work only. No class work. No work done under supervision. No copies or likenesses of another artist’s work including published source, photograph, or reference work not attributable to the artist. Works which violate these criteria are subject to removal. There is no restriction on the year in which the artwork was completed.
No work generated with or assisted by AI (artificial intelligence) may be submitted to the exhibition.
Maximum frame size is 44” in any direction. Minimum image size limit is no smaller than 10” x 14”.
All paintings must be sturdily framed and have Plexiglass plastic glazing. Varnish is not accepted.
The Annual Exhibition attracts thousands of visitors each year. Many are members of other watercolor societies and art groups. The AWS emails exhibition information each spring to a number of these groups. If you wish to be on the mailing list, please contact the AWS office at 212-206-8986 or e-mail us at info@americanwatercolorsociety.org.
Groups (10 or more people) wishing to attend the exhibition are asked to contact the AWS office ( info@americanwatercolorsociety.org, 212-206-8986) and provide the name of the group, the name of a contact person, phone number or e-mail address, the date and time of your visit and the number in the party.
Individuals or small groups do not need to contact the office in advance, but should check with the Salmagundi Club building to confirm open hours: (212) 255-7740.
